There so many ways to customize your wedding day, and one of them is the first time you get to see your future spouse! Gone are the days of “you can’t see each other until you walk down the aisle”… unless that is something that you choose! Between first looks, touches, and letters, the possibilities are endless!

The First Look

A popular choice among couples is The First Look. You and your photographer pick a beautiful location and set up the shot. While one of you faces the photographer, the other is directed to come up behind you and tap you on the shoulder… you turn… and ta da!

Having a first look before your ceremony is great because you ensure that you have the perfect photo of the moment you lay eyes on each other for the first time that day! It also makes the moment private, and intimate. Plus after your reaction photos you can take some other photos as a couple at the start of the day, rather than rushing to take them right after the ceremony or during the reception!

The First Touch

If you are looking to have a moment with your future before your ceremony but leave their first look for the ceremony, then the first touch is for you! Find a location, the corner of wall or a doorway works well, and grab hands while you both stay facing different directions. Being in the same vicinity can help calm your nerves and the touch connection helps ground you in the reason you are there in the first place!

Having a first touch gives you an opportunity to sit in each other’s company while still keeping an element of surprise your wedding! If you feel like taking the first touch one step further, you can even make it to where one of you can see, but the other cannot. You can have your wedding planner or photographer keep them looking the other direction or even use a blindfold!

Writing Letters

Writing each other letters to read the morning of your wedding is a great way to tell your future spouse how much you love them and any last minute reminders before your ceremony! Have someone deliver your letter to the other person, or leave it in the room where they will be getting ready for them to find! Whether the note is long or short, your future spouse will love the reminder of the amazing person they having waiting for them on the other end of the aisle.

When you have the opportunity to read your letter, it gives you a private moment to reflect on your feelings and emotions. Plus it is a perfect keepsake from your wedding day! Get the letters framed, or put them away to read back on your anniversary!

Walking Down the Aisle

And to give credit where credit is due, there is something to be said for waiting till the walk down the aisle! It is a wonderful tradition that you can share in with your family and friends! With the support of your guests, and wedding party, all emotions are heightened and it makes the moment even more special. Plus, who doesn’t want to revel in that long walk down the aisle when you know that not only all of your guests eyes are on you.. but your future spouse’s as well as they try to take in every detail!

Photographers are wonderful at capturing this moment for their clients! It is a priceless photo that you don’t want to miss out on!

While these are some popular wedding trends now, you can always get creative and come up with your own first encounter with your future spouse! Share a phone call to hear their voice before the ceremony, randomly show up while they are getting ready, plan a scavenger hunt that leads to you, whatever makes you happy! What ever you choose, it will be a moment special to the two of you that you will cherish for the rest of your lives!
